In memory of Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, my "No Shit, No Flowers" design is a lighthearted version of this Buddhist lesson, "No mud, No lotus." A reminder of the fact that adversity, anger, and pain can be turned inwardly into rich soil for our personal growth, and outwardly into motivation to improve the world around us.

Unlike toxic positivity's insistence that "everything happens for a reason," or that "everything is part of God's plan," this teaching acknowledges that shit is still shit, garbage is still garbage, but it's in our power to transform it into fertilizer.
